INTRIGUING COMPOSITIONS
self reflection and awareness through mixed media collage, φωτογραφία (photography) and the written word of Maria Davradou

Broader Perspective

Wings are found in most of my symbolic language: Gulls/Γλαροπούλια, Ladybug, the inner guides - Hope, Individuality and Inspiration, butterflies and Πήγασο/Pegaso-Unicorns all share the ability to fly. Even the fins of dolphins serve as symbols of wings: they do, after all, lift their bodies and push them forward!

Wings are light and their seemingly easy 'lift' allows us to gain a broader perspective of our, otherwise, insurmountable προβλήματα - problems. Wings and feathers, in my work, συμβολίζουν - symbolize hope and the ability to obtain a more objective view of any situation once we are willing to distance ourselves and 'see' the bigger picture. Στην Ελληνική μυθολογία - In Greek mythology, the goddess of victory, Νίκη, was a winged goddess and stood for strength of character enabling her to overcome challenges. Fairies and angels alike share the ability to change rapidly their direction, as well as, to move upwards. Their wings have always been an invitation to the realm of fantasy (word of Greek origin: φαντασία) and broader perspectives.

What do wings mean to you? Which are your favorite ones? Have you ever observed closely the fine intricacies and immense variety in designs found in wings?
