What do hats mean to you? Most of us would not think of hats as symbols of any importance. Well, neither did I till the day I came across this plethora (word of Greek origin: from the root of πλήθος meaning 'many') of white hats in an outdoor market in Oaxaca, Mexico. What striked me was the fact that they were all the same! I chose to use them as the landing ground for my favorite mime to play his music, wearing a different hat, and 'being out of context.' A variety of symbolic images are included in this collage work: a black and a white cat wearing a mask, a key, a pile of books, the Gull/Γλάρος, a pigeon and two flowers: a rose and a water lily. On the mime's left shoulder a ladybag is ready to take flight.
